Diseases Treated with Stem Cells

Researchers are working to develop innovative medical therapies using stem cells that may eventually help the body by repairing or replacing damaged or diseased cells, tissues, and organs. In addition to being used in current treatments for cancers, blood, immune, and metabolic disorders, cord blood stem cells are being studied as potential treatment for other serious conditions. For these conditions, currently, the patient must have access to his or her own cord blood stem cells. While cord blood stem cells are used in most current treatments, stem cells found in cord tissue–which are different from those in cord blood–may be just as precious.Cord blood stem cells and cord tissue stem cells have demonstrated the power to heal, and are currently being evaluated in clinical trials as treatment or therapies.
